Changes
The practice and business of medicine has markedly changed over the last 20 years, and it will continue to change. By and large, healthcare providers today are paid based on the level and quantity of services provided. The more you do, the more you get paid. As we move towards a pay-for-performance environment, where the emphasis is on the quality of care and not quantity, however, we need to prepare for the future. This is why Symmetry Information Systems is a participant in the DOQ-IT program.
DOQ-IT
DOQ-IT is a program to help physician offices send codified patient data to a clinical data warehouse. Today 33 possible clinical indicators can be submitted. This information is summarized and sent to the QIO (Quality Improvement Organization) in each state. The QIO evaluate the patient data provided to determine if the measurement criteria have been satisfied for a given patient. For example, if a patient is diabetic, it “checks” to see that annual eye exams or appropriate lab tests are performed when they should. This review is performed with the assumption that if patients receive proper care, then complications are reduced, money is saved, and patient health is improved. In the future, these and other measures can be incorporated and used for “pay for performance” similar to the “Bridges to Excellence”
Symmetry Information Systems is dedicated to the success of our clients, and we will ensure that the General Medical System/2 will meet the needs of our clients today and tomorrow.
